Mechanical, Electrical and Trim (MET)
The role of a MET …
MET Technicians identify damaged mechanical and electrical components on a vehicle, removing and refitting these components, such as airbags, mechanical and electrical systems, anti-lock braking systems, radio detection and ranging (RADAR), light detection and ranging (LIDAR), collision avoidance technology, etc, while ensuring all electrical safety precautions before and after body repair work has been carried out. The vehicle body and paint are then repaired by the Panel technician and Paint technician. The vehicle is then passed back to the MET technician who puts back undamaged parts and any new ones that are required, such as the suspension or cooling system.
The MET Technician can also carry out vehicle diagnostics finding faults within the vehicle management system (on board computer), use vehicle body mechanical repair tools, equipment and devices, e.g. wheel alignment and advanced driver assistance calibration tooling [ADAS], ensuring all vehicle components and trim are repaired to the manufacturer safety and performance standards.
Panel, Paint and MET technicians often work together in a team, and also work with mechanics, auto electricians, sales managers and the customers themselves.
